The Hunger Games..

Book One

Dear Readers,

As of late, I have become enthralled with Suzanne Collins' book series, The Hunger Games. My friend K has been urging me to read the series and once I started, I was hooked. I'm currently reading the second book, Catching Fire and I may have almost missed my subway stop. Almost. If you haven't heard yet, the first book has been made into a motion picture, and will be released on March 23rd. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited.

Have you read the series? If not, please run to your nearest bookstore and get started. I promise you'll love it.

Françoise Hardy

I'm not one to have style icons, but as of late, Françoise Hardy has been my inspiration. The French singer and style icon of the 1960s, still holds the title of cool today. She may have even invented it for all I know. I've been trying to master the art of using black-eyeliner, an art that she seemed to pull off so easily. Safe to say I need more practice. 'Who's That Girl?'

This past week, I watched The Artist at The Paris Theatre in New York City. I was a bit skeptical about watching a black and white silent film, but after the first ten minutes, I completely forgot about it. I was more attuned to the character's emotions, body language and the film's score. That night, I fell in love with movies all over again, and left the theatre smiling and, ironically, speechless.

Moon & Lola Acrylic Monogram Necklace

My Moon & Lola monogram necklace finally came in the mail this week. It features my initials (J. C. E), going from first, last and middle. The block monogram is made out of acrylic and attached with a gold chain. I saw it in a recent issue of Lucky magazine and decided to give myself a belated Christmas gift. Don't you love it?

New Year Resolutions.

Two days after the New Year rang in, I was on my way to work and stopped at the local Pret a Manger for a coffee. (You'll soon discover that I love it there. The coffee, cookies, sandwiches and the people. They love their regulars so much that every now and then, they give them a coffee on the house. Trust me, I know, I'm a regular and not ashamed.)
As I was paying for my cup of jo, the cashier asked me if I had any New Years Resolutions. I decided I'd be witty and said: "My New Years Resolution is to not make any resolutions." The cashier then responded with, "Yea, I did that last year, I was trying to be a wise-ass too, but it didn't work out."

And that's when I decided I needed to make a resolution and then some..

Jo's 2012 Resolutions:

Write, blog, tweet and tumble things worth writing, blogging, tweeting and tumbling about.
Volunteer (where specifically is TBD)
Run a 10k
Try foods that I think are gross, but are probably delicious i.e. oysters
Travel to Paris and do what the Parisians do - which in my mind is wear stripes, cigarette pants, a silk scarf and red flats. Eat a croissant at an outside cafe, buy French bread so I can have a 'sword' fight by the Eiffel Tower and have a Midnight in Paris experience.
Visit my family's homeland of Carini, Sicily
Read the books I currently have on my bookshelf
And because I hate ending on an odd number, clear out my Netflix queue.

I have no problem admitting that the only television I watch is whatever Nick@Nite or TV Land has showing. My favorites being classics like The Nanny and Friends (yes, I consider Fran Fine and the gang from Central Perk classics).

Watching Friends always reminds me of one of my best friends from college. We both knew we'd get along from the beginning when she spotted my Friends DVD collection. From then on, we lived together in our on-campus apartment, spending countless late nights drinking coffee, studying and doing whatever college-y things there was to do. Now, despite living apart, we are enduring the bouts of early twenty-something-hood together. If it is not by a phone call, text, G-Chat, Skype or Facebook - we never go a day without checking in on one another.

Needless to say, she is the Monica to my Rachel. Do you have a friend like Monica/Rachel?

My Mom says that my hair is like Medusa's.

After a recent hair cut that has out-grown its tidy layers and length, my hair is growing outwards, long-wards and upwards in a confused manner. Not that I mind of course, I have accepted whatever my hair is and does. My family however, is still confused as to how my hair came to be this way.

Perhaps this picture will re-familiarize everyone with the how and why:
